Riverside Park is set to host a major Midwest pickleball tournament this weekend, bringing in more than 200 players from several neighboring states and beyond. The Quad Cities Classic will kick off under the lights at 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17 with mens singles matches. Mens and women’s doubles will continue Saturday morning at 8 a.m. and the tournament will wrap up Sunday.  This is the third year for the tournament, which was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. BREAKING NEWS: Southern Illinois regions have run out of available ICU beds, a dangerous metric that could trigger new, harsher covid-19 mandates from Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker. Southern Illinois reported Monday that it had no available ICU beds in an area of almost a half-million people, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health. The Quad City Storm has signed forward Joe Widmar to a training camp contract. Widmar is a native of Northbrook, Illinois and played in six games with the Storm in the 2019-2020 season before departing to play in the French Professional League.
