The board recognized 65 students who have maintained a 3.5 GPA or above for 6 semesters. At the Board of Education meeting on August 10, 65 Rock Island High School seniors were honored as Charles O. Austin Jr. Scholars. The students were presented with certificates of recognition for completing six semesters of study and earning a 3.5 GPA or higher. The designation was established by the Board of Education in honor of Charles O. Western Illinois Leathernecks Hit the Road for Southern Indiana, Morehead State

The Western Illinois men’s basketball team begins a four-game road stretch with a pair of games this week. The Leathernecks open the trip on Thursday, heading to Southern Indiana to take on the Screaming Eagles at 8 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPNU along with the normal ESPN+ online stream and Q98.1 FM radio/online audio broadcast.
