Father / Daughter Art Show Takes Viewers ‘Down the Rabbit Hole’

LeClaire’s Alan and Kristin Campbell are taking local artists, fathers and daughters, “Down the Rabbit Hole.” That Alice in Wonderland theme runs through the father/daughter art show the pair have assembled to run through August at LeClaire’s Mississippi River Distilling Company, 303 N. Cody Road, featuring both paintings and mixed media. While much of the work does slant toward Alice in Wonderland, there are also Matrix-related and more abstract pieces. Playing Pokémon Go? Want to try it? You can catch many of the elusive Pokémon creatures at the Rock Island Library’s Pokémon Go Night on Thursday, Aug. 11, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the Main Library location, 401 19th Street. The Main Library, which is already home to a Pokémon Gym and a PokéStop, will offer a night of Pokemon gaming, trivia, and fun for all ages. The library will activate a Pokémon lure and offer a map of PokéStops that are close to the library. Additional activities include Pokémon trivia, snacks and crafts. For the thirtieth year, Iowa and Illinois will be locked in a mighty battle across the Mississippi. Nope, this doesn’t involve the zipper merge. It’s time for Tugfest again. Tugfest will take place Thursday through Saturday, Aug. 11-13, along the LeClaire, Iowa and Port Byron, Illinois riverfronts. Historic preservation professionals, advocates and volunteers from across the state will gather in Davenport this fall for the 2016 Preserve Iowa Summit and the 50th anniversary of the National Historic Preservation Act.
