Davenport Public Library Celebrates Native American Heritage Month

In partnership with the Davenport Civil Rights Commission, The Library is hosting “We Are Still Here – An Indigenous Journey” at the Fairmount branch on Wednesday, November 16th at 6:30pm. The presenters will share strands of our past, present, and hopes as Indigenous peoples woven with Native American drumming and storytelling. This program is intended for adults. Western Illinois University Housing and Dining Services (UHDS) staff brought home top awards and recognition from the recent Great Lakes Association of College & University Housing Officers (GLACUHO) conference. John Moore, graduate advisor for leadership programs in the Office of Student Engagement and a College Student Personnel graduate student, received the Outstanding Graduate Practitioner Award for the state of Illinois. The Bettendorf Public Library takes a look at what has shaped the Baby Boom generation

On Thursday, November 17th at 1:30 PM, Bettendorf author Tom Miller will present a special edition of Community Connections titled the “Class of 1964.” Mr. Miller’s presentation will review post-World War II history and the events that shaped the Baby Boom generation. His new novel, “A Place to Rest” takes place during the Baby Boom years (1946-1964) and Mr. Miller will be using excerpts from the book to illustrate points in the presentation. WQPT Airing 'My Brother's Gift' Holocaust-Themed Production

In September 2022, The Black Box Theatre performed “My Brother’s Gift,” as a part of the Out of Darkness: Holocaust Messages for Today initiative. The play is based on the remarkable true story of Heinz Geiringer, neighbor and friend of Anne Frank. The production will air on WQPT on November 17 at 8:00 pm and will be followed by a short documentary on the Anne Frank Exhibit in Danville, Iowa. Heinz, a trained musician at only 15, was forced to live in hiding and silence in Nazi occupied Amsterdam. He turned to painting and poetry to express his everyday terror, but also his hope for the future.... Read More

The Artsy Bookworm, a local independent bookstore in Rock Island that prides itself on carrying the books of more than thirty local authors, is holding its first Annual Author Conference and Book Fair on November 13.
