Mid America Premier Soccer’s top-rated U10 team opened its new season by continuing its winning ways with a dominating win of the Elmhurst Cup over the weekend.

The team played four games over the Aug. 12-13 tourney against a variety of squads from around Chicagoland on the pitches of the titular Windy City suburb. Seven teams were involved in the tourney, with the first three games being scored on points for victory and margin of victory. The top two teams in each age group then faced off in a Sunday afternoon battle.

Mid America Premier stomped to massive wins in the first three contests, never allowing more than one goal in a game and having an average margin of victory of over 15 goals.

In the championship, Mid America faced its first challenge, however briefly, as the game was at a hard-fought 1-1 draw five minutes in. But after both teams made their first substitutions, the game broke open quickly, with Mid America exerting its will and opening up a commanding 8-1 lead at half. By midway through the second half, the official had stopped keeping score, as the Quad-Cities team pummeled the opposition en route to the gold medal.

“Mid America Premier Soccer would like to congratulate the U10’s on winning The Elmhurst Cup with a dominating performance! Most importantly they displayed great sportsmanship and played as team from start to finish!” Team President Jeff Barnes said on the MAPS website.  “The team has started the way they left from last season and that’s as CHAMPIONS!!! We would also like to thank the parents for their support because without them none of this would be possible and to all of our sponsors contributions which we are so very thankful for!”

The wins give Mid America a 4-0 record to start the 2017-2018 campaign.
