Bettendorf Boys Soccer Wins Fourth Straight MAC Title

The Bettendorf boys soccer team, ranked 9 in Iowa, defeated #11 Muscatine 4-3 in a thrilling, back-and-forth contest Thursday night to win their fourth consecutive Mississippi Athletic Conference title.
The Bulldogs went to 8-1 alone atop the conference and 10-3-1 overall. All three of their losses have been to opponents ranked in the top three in the state.
Forward Cam Scupham scored his MAC-leading 19th and 20th goals in the Bulldogs victory, with Tyler Agosta and Izaak Mejia netting goals and Jackson Leary and Landon Baffa getting assists.
It’s the first MAC title at Bettendorf for new head coach Franco Munoz, who took over from Ben Pennington after his retirement after coaching the Bulldogs soccer program since 1982.
The Bulldogs took an early 1-0 lead on a goal by Mejia on an assist from Leary, but the Muskies tied the score just before half to knot them up 1-1 at halftime.
Scupham and Agosta scored to put the Bulldogs up 3-1 in the second, but the Muskies kept it close with another goal to make it 3-2. Scupham scored again on an assist from Baffa to make it 4-2, but with seven minutes left, the Muskies found the net again to make it 4-3. However, the Bulldogs were tough down the stretch, with some awesome defensive effort to shut out the Muskies and secure their fourth consecutive title.
Bettendorf begins its state playoff run facing off against Iowa City High May 27.
