Bad dates. Horrible relationships. Awkward moments in online dating.

We’ve all been through them, and known others who have as well.

Now, Sean Leary and My Verona Productions is offering you the chance to laugh your way through others’ romantic miseries – and on the perfect day to shoot an arrow at Cupid, Valentine’s Day.

“Shots 2 The Heart: Terrible Tales of Dating Disasters,” a new, original show, will debut Feb. 14 at Rock Island’s Establishment Theater, 201 19th St., Rock Island. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., show starts at 7. Tickets ($10 in advance, $12 at the door) are available at the Establishment box office and by phone at (309) 786-1111 or online at www.establishmentqc.com.

The show is written by Sean Leary and also features sketches by the Heywire improvisational comedy troupe, stand up comedy from Heather Nobiling and Pablo Ramos and songs by Nikki Gillette and Steve Couch. Leary is directing and producing the show as well.

“We wanted to come up with a really funny, original show for Valentine’s Day that would appeal to people that were single and in relationships,” Leary said. “Everyone has been through terrible dates, so we did a shout out to our friends and on social media and people inundated us with their stories. We picked the best and funniest ones and mixed in some from personal experience and came up with a pretty hilarious bunch of awkward and awful moments in dating history.

“People who are single and dating can come out and laugh along with the experiences, and people who have a significant other can come out and laugh and be glad they aren’t single!”

The show also features bad dating stories from local celebrities including former WQAD-TV8 anchor Jason Fechner and Joni Mitchell from country radio The Hawk 104.9. In addition, everyone who shows up will be treated to free candy, balloons and valentines cards to celebrate Valentine’s Day. “Shots” is the latest show by My Verona Productions, the groundbreaking theater and film company founded by Leary and Tristan Tapscott in 2004, which went on hiatus in 2008. The group’s next show is “We Are All Characters,” an original children’s musical, written by Leary, which will debut at Rock Island’s District Theater in the fall.
