Illinois State Representative Candidate Brooks Slams Times For False Reporting

State Rep. Candidate Thurgood Brooks is asking the public to withhold judgment after an article was published in the Quad City Times on February 17, 2022, containing false statements about Mr. Brooks and the events surrounding the Rock Island City Councilmeeting of February 14. “When video of the events in question is made available, everyone in District 72 will be able to judge for themselves” says Brooks. “But I want to be very clear that the article that appeared in the Quad City Times on February 17 is misleading and contains statements about me that are false.” Mr. Brooks, a respected... Read More

Quad City Times Losses, Entertainment Industry Collapse, Do Not Bode Well For Covid-Impacted Economy

“If you work in the media, you’re going to get fired.” My college Journalism 101 teacher said that to our eager group of 18-year-olds on my first day in his class. Great way to introduce us to his curriculum, and the business, right? He told us it wasn’t meant to be a cautionary statement, merely a pragmatic one. That’s the business. That’s media. Ownership changes, management changes, budgets get cut, formats and directions get shifted, and the people in the trenches are the ones who are usually set loose. You have to have a thick skin, a backup plan, and the ability not to take it... Read More

Laura Fraembs' Legacy Is One Of Hard Work And Journalistic Integrity

Laura Fraembs wasn’t well-known to the general public outside of local media circles. She wasn’t on TV, or radio, and her picture rarely appeared in the newspapers for which she’d worked since 1981, The Dispatch and Rock Island Argus, and then the Quad City Times. In fact, she hated attention and shied away from the spotlight. But Fraembs’ legacy of integrity and veracity, absolutely spartan work ethic, and dedication to the principles of journalism, made her a true star of local media and an irreplaceable part of the newspapers. I was very sad to hear about her passing... Read More
