Quad City Arts Unveils New Public Sculptures This Week

Seven public sculptures in Bettendorf and two in Moline will be moving to other locations and replaced with new sculptures over the next 15 days, beginning Monday, June 7th. Moline is adding two more sculptures this year and the Geneseo Public Library will be leasing a sculpture for the first time. Rock Island has elected to re-lease four of the sculptures from last years’ selection and purchase the sculpture titled “Reaching to the Moon” by Tim Frye for its permanent collection. Quad City Arts is helping promote a new grant opportunity for artists to help combat rampant vaccine hesitancy nationwide. It is posting the fact that Arts Alliance Illinois is looking for practicing local artists (any medium) whose audiences reach Illinois residents under 35 years old, people of color, and women. Ideally, these artists have audiences and followings in the target demographics. The artists themselves do not have to fit within said demographics. Quad City Arts is having an in-person artist reception for its current exhibit at 1715 2nd Ave., Rock Island, on Friday, May 21 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Admission is free and beer, wine and pre-packaged snacks will be served. Face masks will be encouraged, but not required in conjunction with the new CDC and state guidelines, according to Quad City Arts. The newest Quad City Arts’ Art at the Airport exhibit is all in the family — paintings by Kristin Quinn of Davenport, with ceramic creations by her sister, Megan Quinn, of Rock Island, on display through June 30. Megan Quinn is a professor at Augustana College in Rock Island, while Kristin Quinn is a professor at St. Ambrose University in Davenport. Megan is a ceramic artist, and Kristin is a painter.
