New Exhibit, Show Heading Into German American Heritage Center

Two new events highlight the weekend at the German American Heritage Center, 712 W. 2nd St., Davenport. The first is a new exhibit, “Indelible Ink” opening Sunday, September 4. This exhibit will feature a variety of pieces from the Erick O. Schonstedt Inkstand Collection on loan from the Augustana College Art Collection and will run through Sunday, January 8. Amber Williams, Ana Garza Moore Take Top Honors at Bucktown

Quad-Cities artists Amber Williams and Ana Garza Moore took the top honors in the Revive 2 art exhibit taking place through August at Bucktown Arts Gallery, 225 East 2nd St.,  Davenport. Williams won the Board Award, chosen by the members of the Bucktown arts board, where Moore took home the Viewers’ Choice Award, voted upon by attendees of the exhibit. “I’m really happy and a little surprised,” said Williams, about the award, which netted her $100 in addition to a certificate of achievement. “Last year I got the people’s choice, which I was really excited about. In the back of a newspaper a couple of weeks ago I came across a call to entry. The Bucktown gallery was looking for submissions for a show called Revive2 that had to include something recycled. “One, Two, Three,” by the comedic film genius Billy Wilder is the next film to unspool in the Germans in Hollywood: Film & Lecture Series taking place at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. `14 at the Figge Art Museum-John Deere Auditorium, downtown Davenport. Historic preservation professionals, advocates and volunteers from across the state will gather in Davenport this fall for the 2016 Preserve Iowa Summit and the 50th anniversary of the National Historic Preservation Act. Presented by the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) and the City of Davenport, the “2016 Preserve Iowa Summit: Our History, Our Future” will be Sept. 15-17 at various venues in or near Davenport’s historic downtown, with a pre-summit reception set for 6-9 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Historic Freight House.
