Bucktown is always a hot spot for fun and enlightening local arts programming, but this Friday, it’s going to be even more so.

BUCKTOWNThe Davenport venue at 225 E 2nd St, Davenport, is holding a special show, the Bucktown Bash, from 6 to 10 to raise money for programing, operating expenses, and advertising for MidCoast Fine Arts.

The 11th annual event to help raise awareness for local artists and funds for the Bucktown venue as well as Midcoast Fine Arts will have an outdoor concert featuring Juliana &  Soul Purpose, Bucktown Revue, and Waking Robots – three pretty awesome local bands.

Vendors are going to include Great River Brewing, Streets of Italy (who are going to be dealing out woodfire pizza, which is a food of the gods), and pop and water will refresh your taste buds, sold out of the cooler by your pals at Midcoast.

“It’s always exiting to see people  who have never been to Bucktown, and I am very proud to show them the variety of talent we represent,” said Tony Seabolt, a reknowned local artist and one of the organizers of the event, adding, about some of the cool highlights of the event,  “We have the High School pastel expo awards, lots of new artists and work by our regular artists plus great music outdoors.”

But it’s also more than that, it’s about entering a hive of artistic activity.

“Bucktown is a place of inspiration and connection to the artists where you can meet them and talk about their processes, it’s also one of the best places for young or amateur artist to show and sell their art,” Seabolt said. “This is a great way to have fun and support what we are trying to do provide more opportunities for local artists, create an even better place to display art by working on updating the existing gallery’s and creating a space for the new Midcoast gallery on the first floor.”

Admission to the gig is a suggested donation of $15 and the galleries will be open for you to enjoy and purchase art produced by local artists. And if you’ve ever been to Bucktown, and even if you haven’t, you’re in for a treat, because it’s a cornucopia of different art from painting to sculpture to woodwork to glasswork to mixed media and more.

“Our costs are always an issue whether we are trying to advertise or just increasing operating costs,” Seabolt said. “This event gives us some security funds to fall back on.”

In other words, it’s a good time for a good cause. For more information, see www.midcoast.org.
