Take a trip to ‘Nocturne Falls’ for oddball fun

August 18th, 2016

If you want to trek to a land of hilarious, oddball fun, hit the trails to “Nocturne Falls” tomorrow night at the Establishment Theater. The show is one of Comedy Sportz’ regular after-hours studio series gigs, a slate of shorter performances with an R-rated slant that hit different distinct audiences, but have one thing in common – they’re all unique, hilarious and improvisational fun. “Nocturne” is part “Twin Peaks,” part Mayberry, part Weekly World News. It’s set in the town of the same name, and the show involves a group of its residents, each chatting, in monologues and... Read More

Welcome to the Whirling World of Disc Golf

May 13th, 2016

What is Disc Golf? Ladies and Gentlemen, I would like to introduce you to a sport that is taking the world by storm!  You may have heard people call it “Frisbee golf” or even “frolf.” However, for those of us who play, we prefer to call it “disc golf.” So what exactly is disc golf?  Well, it is a sport played much like traditional golf.  However instead of a ball and clubs, players use a flying disc, or Frisbee, and try to throw it into a basket with chains.  The sport was formalized in the 1970’s and shares with “ball golf” the object of completing each hole in the fewest... Read More

Uncovering the comedy greatness in our backyard

April 1st, 2016

When I was first asked to take on the job writing about the local comedy scene for Quadcities.com I knew immediately what my first article would have to be about. I wanted to look back at where I personally got my start in comedy but because nearly every opportunity to do comedy in the Quad Cities stems from one organization’s timeline in our hometown; ComedySportz Quad Cities. If you’re reading this but have no idea who or what ComedySportz is, I will tell you what you are in for if you attend a show. The style of comedy performed is improv comedy. Meaning everything you see and hear... Read More

However, parents need not get too worried, as the Bettendorf Family Museum is ready with a full slate of activities to keep the kiddies happy, thinking and burning off some of that excess energy. One-man show “ChaRICKatures” at The Establishment Theater

January 29th, 2016

Rick Davis has long been known as an improvisational master of many hats and voices, and in his latest one-man show, “ChaRICKatures,” he’ll get the chance to use as many of both as he can in a show that finds the veteran local comedian presenting a show that even Establishment owner Patrick Adamson says is “really performing without a net.” Davis will eschew the usual practice of improvisation with other partners and instead will partner up with the crowd, playing an interesting game of presenting a handful of celebrities he’ll be impersonating and then having the audience suggestions... Read More
