Get Out Of The Darkness With Benefit WalkIn the United States, a person dies by suicide every 13.3 minutes, claiming more than 39,500 lives each year.

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) funds research aimed at improving our understanding of suicide and ways to prevent it as well as educational programs to increase awareness about prevention, warning signs and the psychiatric illnesses that can lead to suicide. One way they raise these funds is through their Out of the Darkness Walks.

The Quad Cities is hosting their very own Out of the Darkness Walks this Sunday Sep 17. The walk will begin at Len Brown’s North Shore Inn and Marina (700 N Shore Dr Moline) and will continue down the bike path towards Milan. The walk is 1-3 miles, depending on how far you would like to venture.

Registration for this walk can be completed online at https://afsp.donordrive.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=donordrive.event&eventID=4640 until Friday at noon. You can also register at check-in on Sunday at 2 p.m. Donations will be accepted until December 31st.

The walk will begin at 3 p.m. and will last until around 4 p.m. You can walk as individuals or as a team. Those who have lost loved ones to suicide are asked to bring a picture or memento for the memory wall. For updates you can also visit their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/afspqcwalk/.

Enjoy a peaceful walk along the beautiful Rock River this weekend, while supporting and helping to raise funds for the AFSP.
