The Blue Cat Brewery in Rock Island will celebrate their first anniversary of reviving the classic Quad City beer brand this November. The original owners ran the second oldest operating craft brew pub in Illinois from 1993 to 2017 before brewmaster Charlie Cole and partners brought the brand back to life with the original beer recipes around this time last year.

As part of their celebration they’ll be inviting a few other local professional brewers in for a live discussion panel to tell their unique journeys of making beer their career. Charlie’s story took him from St. Louis as an award winning homebrewer to working at an international brewery and studying brewing science and operations at St. Louis University before making the move to the Quad Cities. St. Louis University will be sponsoring this event, providing a complimentary beer flight and a glass to take home just for registering for this free event.

“One of the most frequent questions we get as brewers is ‘how does someone get to be a brewer?’, Says Charlie Cole, “this is an opportunity to find out how a few of us locally made brewing our career. Hopefully it will be the inspiration someone is needing to jump into our field”

You’ll hear the stories from brewers of Great Revivalist Brew Labs in Geneseo, Twin Span Brewing in Bettendorf, The Granary Coffee House & Brewery in Eldridge, and Nerdspeak Brewery in Bettendorf. Other brewers may still be added. They’ll share their backgrounds, education, and what pushed them to take the leap into the beer industry.

It will start at 6pm at Blue Cat Brewing Co. (113 18th St., Rock Island, IL 61201) with a reception/happy hour. The discussion panel will start at 7pm. There will be Q & A time for guests to ask the brewers more about their careers. The event is free to attend but registration is required and is strictly 21+.
