Circa’s “Music on the Marquee” Returns to Downtown Rock Island

To help celebrate Circa ’21 Dinner Playhouse’s 49th anniversary, the downtown Rock Island venue’s signature event “Music on the Marquee” will return next Thursday, June 11.

For the first time since 2023 (due to downtown construction), this unique and popular outdoor concert venue will showcase performers atop their iconic marquee.

Bring a lawn chair and join the Circa ‘21 Bootleggers, the cast of the current “Fiddler on the Roof” and a few special guests (including Savannah Bay Strandin and Jack Carslake) they entertain you in this special live concert event held on the street in Downtown Rock Island.

Food and drinks also will be available for purchase. Launched during 2020 COVID restrictions, and done twice that summer, “Music on the Marquee” returned in 2021, 2022 and 2023.

On Thursday, ticket-holders are welcome starting at 6 p.m., with the show at 7 p.m. Tickets are $30 in advance, $35 day of show, available at Circa21.com.

Jonathan Turner -- who has called the Quad Cities home since 1995 -- has decades of experience as a professional journalist and pianist. His experience writing for daily newspapers, public radio and local TV encompasses a wide range of subjects, including the arts, politics, education, economic development, historic preservation, business, and tourism.
Jonathan most loves writing about music and the arts (which he now does as a freelancer for the River Cities Reader and Visit Quad Cities). He has a passion for accompanying musicals, singers, choirs and instrumentalists, including playing for QC Music Guild's 2023 productions of RENT and SWEENEY TODD. He wrote an original musical based on The Book of Job, which premiered at Playcrafters in 2010. Jonathan penned a 175-page history book about downtown Davenport, that was published by The History Press in 2016, and a travel guide about the QC published by Reedy Press in 2022.
