If it’s cold for you, it’s cold for them!

Take care of your pets this winter by keeping them safe from the horribly cold temps.

Here are some tips from Quad City Animal Welfare Center:

Cold Weather Safety Tips

  • KEEP YOUR PETS INSIDE! Animals can experience hypothermia and frostbite. Your dog should only be out long enough to go potty!
  •  Check your gate and fence before letting your dog out to be sure they are secured.
  • The higher the snow, the lower the fence. Snow removal build up and drifts can cause the snow to be deeper in some areas of your yard making the height of your fence easily accessible.

  • Always make sure your pet has on proper identification. Your pet should have a collar with an id tag, including your name, address, phone number, and your pets name. We highly recommend microchipping your pet and offer microchipping at our curbside drive up wellness clinic: https://qcawc.org/vet…/drive-up-curbside-wellness-clinic
  • Use pet safe salt ice melt. Traditional salt can have chemicals that may be harmful for your pet.
  • Wipe their paws! When your dog comes in from being outside it is important that you wipe their paws. Make sure to wipe them thoroughly removing any snow or ice in their paw pads.
  • There are laws in all states and ordinances in each county to protect animals in extreme cold weather requiring proper shelter and humane care. If you have a concern, call your local animal control or non-emergency police department.
