Western Illinois University Celebrates Asian And Pacific Islander American Heritage Month

May is Asian and Pacific Islander American Heritage Month. Since 1990, the U.S. has used this month to recognize and celebrate Asians and Pacific Islanders in the United States. Like many commemorative months, Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month originated in Congress in 1977. After several failed resolutions, a week was proclaimed for the acknowledgement and celebration of Asian/Pacific American Heritage in 1979. MOLINE, IL – The Western Illinois University- Quad Cities Chess Club will host the Quad Cities Cinco de Mayo 2023 Chess Tournament from 10 a.m.-6p.m. Saturday, May 6 at WIU-QC Riverfront Hall, rooms 103/104. A peace rally to remember those injured and lost in the March 25 incident in Macomb will begin at 4:45 p.m. Thursday, May 4 in the brick courtyard behind the Western Illinois University Union.
