Moline, IL – The Western Illinois University- Quad Cities Chess Club will host the Quad Cities Cinco de Mayo 2023 Chess Tournament from 10 a.m.-6p.m. Saturday, May 6 at WIU-QC Riverfront Hall, rooms 103/104.

The tournament, which will include WIU-QC students, WIU Leathernecks Chess Club Moline and the Illowa Chess Club from the Quad Cities, is designed to explore students’ minds through strategy and determination, while forming new relationships.

Registration is required to participate and can be completed the day of the tournament from 8:30-9:30 a.m. The USCF-Rated Open Section requires both USCF and IASCA membership; the USCF-Rated Reserve competition requires USCF membership only.

Schedule of tournament includes:

USCF-Rated Open Section (Iowa Mini Qualifier): 10 a.m. start, 1:15 p.m. start, 3:45 p.m. start and 6 p.m. start.
USCF-Rated Reserve (Under 1400): 10 a.m. start, 1:15 p.m. start, 3:45 p.m. start and 6 p.m. start.
Unrated Beginner Kids Section (four rounds): 10 a.m. start.

Light refreshments and pizza will be served. Prizes for top finishers will be awarded following the tournament.
