New Davenport Museum Staffer Sitting Pretty in Pink at Dream Job

Erika Holshoe has traveled from one end of the U.S. to the other, and to Europe, to pursue her passions. The bubbly 25-year-old is now in her dream job as new assistant director of the German American Heritage Center and Museum, 712 W. 2nd St., Davenport. It marries her affection for her own family’s German heritage, German culture, language, and her love of museums. If you visit the Quad City Botanical Center by the end of May – and you certainly should – you’ll see a portrait of an artist as a young man. A very young, talented man indeed. Eight-year-old Levi Folker of Davenport is the youngest artist ever to have his own exhibit in the 23-year-history of the QCBC, with 28 of his deeply colorful, imaginative paintings on the walls in the main hallway. A unique mural of Abraham Lincoln, designed by Western Illinois University graphics students, will soon hang in the University Union to designate the building’s Lincoln Room. The initial idea for the mural came from University Union Assistant Director Ashley Katz, who wanted a design for the windows of the Lincoln Room to make its location in the building more recognizable. Quad City Arts has a new partnership with KWQC-TV6, to provide exposure for area artists to create logos for their new weekly show, as well as the opportunity to feature local artists – on “Quad Cities Live.” Airing Fridays from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., QC Live invites area artists to submit their work, particularly to create new versions of the show’s logo.
