Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) voted to pass a bipartisan defense spending bill that includes historic wins to support the Rock Island Arsenal and strengthens national security. Rock Island Arsenal to host 9-11 Flag Walk, Remembrance Ceremony

Rock Island Arsenal will host two events to commemorate the 21st anniversary of the 9-11 terrorist attacks that took place on September 11, 2001. Both events will take place on Friday, September 9. Both are open to the public. A flag walk will begin at 6:30 a.m., with marchers assembling at 6 a.m. at Memorial Field on RIA. During the flag walk, marchers will carry American flags on a 2.5-mile course that will end at the 9-11 Memorial, across from Memorial Field. The Rock Island National Cemetery is seeking volunteers to place American flags at the headstones of fallen service members in honor of Memorial Day. Work to place the flags will begin at 4 p.m., Thursday, May 26 rain or shine. Please plan to arrive early due to the incredible support from the greater Quad Cities area, which will result in high traffic into the Cemetery. U.S. Army officials will formally dedicate the U.S. Army Health Clinic at Rock Island Arsenal, Illinois, on Thursday, April 14 at 10 a.m. The clinic will be known as the Woodson Health Clinic, in honor of a World War II medic who served with First Army and saved countless lives during the Allied Invasion of Normandy.  Staff Sgt. Waverly B. Woodson, a Medal of Honor nominee, was assigned to the 320th Barrage Balloon Battalion, the Army’s only African American unit to storm the beach on D-Day.  According to congressional records, at about 9:30 a.m. on June 6, 1944, Woodson was headed ashore aboard... Read More
