Eleven Quad-Cities Cultural Groups Get $500K in New Iowa Funding

Eleven cultural organizations and three artists in the Quad-Cities were among those to receive a share of $7 million in new grants announced Tuesday by the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs. A total of 267 cultural organizations and 152 artists serving 118 Iowa communities will get funding, made possible by the Coronavirus, Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act, on Dec. 2. The department launched the Iowa Arts & Culture Recovery Program the same day and received more than 550 requests totaling more than $36 million by the Dec. 11 deadline. Davenport’s Junior Theater Debuting Online Classes This Week

Davenport’s Junior Theater is bringing theatrical lessons to a computer near you this week! The local theater will be holding online classes starting June 1. The sessions will last for four weeks. Junior Theatre Zooms In With 50 Online Classes

It’s fitting that one of the many things Davenport Junior Theatre (DJT) teaches is improv – for students to develop an ability to think quickly and imaginatively. In light of the Covid-19 pandemic, the 69-year-old program of Davenport Parks and Recreation is doing its own improvising, by shifting programs online. Since April, it has over 50 free videos on the “DJT Learning YouTube Channel” (on YouTube) that include lessons in theater and dance, tours, full productions, and much more. Beauty And The Beast Kicking Off Junior Theater Season

Junior Theater is ready to kick off its latest season with “Beauty and the Beast,” at its 2822 Eastern Avenue, Davenport, location. In their first Broadway musical in nearly a decade, Junior Theatre brings Dr. Seuss to Life in “Seussical.” Performances are 1 and 4 p.m. Feb. 17, 18, 24 and 25.
