For 36 years, Davenport Schools teacher and coach Ira Dunsworth has provided support and guidance to students and athletes in the Quad Cities area. To honor him for his achievements and community spirit, the board of the Davenport Community School District has agreed to name the track at Brady Street Stadium after him. Davenport schools need more substitute teachers, and this problem is not unique to the Quad-Cities. According to the Chicago Tribune, a lack of available subs has reached a crisis level at many school districts across the Chicago area, and a nationwide shortage of substitute teachers was a chronic problem long before the arrival of the pandemic. Last week, Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds signed a new law mandating schools offer 100% in-person education, and on Friday morning, three Iowa Quad-Cities superintendents discussed that impact – as well as other school changes in an online forum hosted by the Quad Cities Chamber.
