The Iowa Department of Education, Bureau of Nutrition and Health Services, has finalized its policy for free and reduced price meals for children unable to pay the full price of meals served under the National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program, Special Milk Program and the Afterschool Care Snack Program. The Teacher and The Davenport Community School District was awarded a $3,700,848 competitive grant Thursday, June 9 as part of Gov. Reynolds’ new Teacher and Paraeducator Registered Apprenticeship Pilot Program to grow Iowa’s educator talent pipeline and support expansion of registered apprenticeships in schools across the state. Davenport high school apprentices celebrated the start of National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) on Friday, November 12th. They were joined by Iowa Workforce Development, local businesses, and education leaders. National Apprenticeship Week is a nationwide celebration of Registered Apprenticeship programs and the critical pathways that these programs create. Davenport Community School District was honored with the Iowa Recycling Association’s (IRA) Best Sustainability & Education Program award. Flu vaccines will be available for all Davenport Community School District (DCSD) students and their family members. The Genesis Flu-Free Quad Cities program will be available in the region for the fifteenth year this fall. The community is still working through the COVID-19 pandemic. But, seasonal influenza will also return later this fall.
