Western Illinois University’s Liam Bushey and Kenneth Perez Receive OVC Honors

The Ohio Valley Conference released the 2025 Baseball postseason awards this morning which featured two Leathernecks. Liam Bushey was named to the All-OVC Second Team as a Utility player while Kenneth Perez was named to the All-OVC Freshman Team.

Bushey, a native of Mission, British Columbia, led the Leathernecks in several offensive categories this season including batting average (.340), hits (65), RBI (38), total bases (86), and OBP (.436). Bushey played in 48 games with starts at first base, right field, and designated hitter to qualify him for the utility position. He ranked in the top 10 in the OVC in hits, batting average, and OBP to receive the All-OVC Second Team honor. Bushey started off the 2025 campaign reaching base safely in the first 34 games played, which led to him hitting lead off for most of the second half of the season.

Kenneth Perez was one of 13 Freshman in the OVC to be named to the All-Freshman team and was one of three shortstops on the list of Freshman. In his first collegiate season, Perez hit .268 with 48 hits, 12 doubles, four home runs, and 24 RBI in 48 games played in 2025. Defensively, Perez played primarily at shortstop where he had 70 putouts and 110 assists. His 110 assists led the Leathernecks in that category and was also tied for first on the team in double plays turned with 19.

The Leathernecks will look to build off of the success of both Liam Bushey and Kenneth Perez heading into the 2026 season.
