Western Illinois University Nursing Office Administrator Lura Krueger has been named the Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month for November.

Having initially joined WIU in March 2018, Krueger’s professional journey took her elsewhere for a period, only to see her return to the University in January 2021 where she began her current position. Throughout her career, her steadfast dedication and resilience have been evident and have certainly not gone unnoticed. Her commitment to WIU and her ability to navigate different paths in her career showcase her valuable contributions to the University community.

Nominated for this accolade, Krueger is commended for her unwavering kindness and welcoming attitude toward every student at WIU. Her commitment to fostering a positive environment reflects the values that this award celebrates.

“I noticed that some students were going hungry due to lack of time to eat before or between classes. In response, she selflessly purchased granola bars and fresh fruit, making them available for students to access,” her nominator said. “Krueger has been known to sacrifice her lunch break to assist students with financial matters at the Union or to help them locate necessary resources in the community.”

In August 2010, the Goldfarbs established an endowment to permanently fund the University’s Civil Service Employee of the Month award. The Goldfarb endowment is used to fund a $100 award for the recipient of the Civil Service Employee of the Month, as well as a plaque.

The WIU Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the Civil Service Employee of the Year. Western faculty, staff, and administrators, as well as community members wishing to nominate a civil service employee for the monthly recognition, should contact the Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) at csec-nominations-g@wiu.edu.
