Don’t Try This At Home, But Do Go To The Establishment For It

Don’t Try This At Home, But Do Go To The Establishment For It

Each Friday and Saturday night, there is an adult level after show following the regularly scheduled Comedy Sportz performance in the District of Rock Island. This is the point where the kids exit the building so the bigger kids can let loose on stage. There is a different show every Friday and Saturday night. They rotate and come up with new ideas all the time to add into the mix. The show from last weekend is known as “Don’t Try This At Home”. Talk about a full house! I almost had to stand up for the show. Luckily, there was a spot by the bar just perfect for me. I needed to... Read More

From Rushour To Re-Fl3X, Local Dance Artists Making A Positive Impact

The streets of the Quad Cities can get pretty rough for some of these kids. There is not much to do outside of getting into fights and causing trouble in some instances. Some kids have less than perfect lives. Some of them never make it out of this lifestyle. Drugs and jail time end up being norms and dreams fade away and die. But some kids find that something inside of them that drives them to go for it. Some kids fight to change their stars. One kid I know that grew up with my oldest son, Curtis Bell, did just that. At a certain point, he decided he wanted to do something with his incredible... Read More

Chili Three Ways Is Cool And Hot Comedy

Since I began reviewing the shows at the Establishment Theater, 220 19th St., Rock Island, I have laughed harder than I have laughed all year long. I love this place and I hope you all give it a looksee one of these weekends. You can catch PG rated Comedy Sportz starting at 7 p.m. and stick around for the R rated aftershow of the evening. The improvisational comedy never fails to impress the crowd as audience involvement is key to these shows. The actors are all very gifted with communication and have unstoppable wits about them. After the Comedy Sportz show for Sept. 17, I stuck around to laugh... Read More

It’s Your Fault If You Miss The Hilarious It’s Your Fault At The Establishment

The Establishment Theatre rests in the heart of the District of Rock Island just around the corner from Circa 21. Within it are your local improvisational comedy masters and the softest big pretzel you are going to find in the Q-C.  When you make it down for Comedy Sportz, be sure to stick around for the late shows. There are MANY of these. It just depends on which night you choose to come by that will decide your fate. These are geared toward adults, so the kids are more than welcome for Comedy Sportz shows, but need to be safely out of the building before the actors are virtually set free on... Read More

Q-Cs Zealots Help Make America Rock Again At iWireless Center

The iWireless Center hosts countless local events and brings to us the latest and the greatest legends in music on a regular basis. The Make America Rock Again rockfest came through Sept. 10 and I was lucky enough to attend this amazing display of current rock and roll bands. Trapt, Saliva, Drowning Pool, Alien Ant Farm, Tantric, The Zealots, and Saving Abel all completely rocked the auditorium with greatness that I had never experienced in my life. The place was packed with rockers young and old. The air was filled with excitement with every boom of the bass that pounded fiercely throughout the... Read More

‘Menopause: The Musical’ Is A ‘Life-Changing Performance’ For Reviewer

Friday, August 26, I was invited by a couple of old high school girlfriends to the Circa 21 theatre in the District of Rock Island, IL to see the musical, “Menopause.” I was very excited to see this since I am coming of age, so to speak. And especially since I was to be seeing it with two girls I have known for 30 years. This would promise to be a life-changing performance for myself and every other woman in attendance. Before I go any further, let me say that this theatre is the most beautiful building I have ever had the pleasure of viewing in our Quad-Cities. The grand state of the... Read More

QCTW’s ‘The Inheritors’ Is An Amazing Experience

The Quad City Theatre Workshop is home to some of the most amazing local actors I have come across and a wonderful theater area and experience and that amazing experience is embodied in their latest show, “The Inheritors.” From the cozy seating area that places you practically within the set, to the people involved, one finds themselves completely submerged in their world. There is real feeling in every player. I felt every character in this play because their connection with their parts were so intense. I was humbled by this amazing performance. I was captivated and stunned by the impact of... Read More

‘The Birds’ Flies High For Genesius Guild

The summer is passing quickly and the Genesius guild finishes their summer schedule with “the Birds” by Aristophanes. This play was written 2430 years ago in Athens. In this play, two protagonists are fed up with the media-driven ways of human life and society. They tire of politics. They grow weary of the rules and struggles for power. They desire a whole entire new life. As as result of this want, the two men decide that they are finished with the ground and shall forever live among the birds. Ironically, they introduce these very human behaviors and beliefs to the sky. The play has... Read More

‘Children of Eden’ Moved This Reviewer To Tears

Just uphill from a friendly little pond at Prospect Park in Moline, IL, lies an auditorium which is home to the Quad City Music Guild. As I arrived on the scene, I duly noted that the crowd gathering was a bit more distinguished and the staff was both friendly and professional. I made my way to my seat readied my writing utensils for what may come. Having known nothing of the play, I was unusually eager. “Children of Eden” is a play written originally played on stage at a religious high school. In ACT I, it tells both the stories of Adam and Eve and then Cain and Abel. In Act II, the story... Read More
