I would like, if I may, to tell you of the play that is taking place in the District of Rock Island just a couple of doors down from Circa 21’s popular main theatre in their Speakeasy.  It is much smaller but not any less fun. There is a charming stage with a deep red curtain and bar equipped with nachos and plenty to drink, including a charming list of drinks named especially for the occasion.
The event that night, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. I ordered a Time warp and a prop bag for myself and my daughter. She came dressed as the spitting image of Magenta and everyone was staring at us. Though this made her uncomfortable, I was extremely proud to wave her around. We were packed in like sardines but the staff was so attentive and friendly that it made no difference.

Well, that and a room packed with potential Transylvanians is not a bad place to be! They also had prepared prop bags with lists completed for the items inside as Rocky is an interactive viewing that assisted in pulling us all together as not just an audience, but a team…a team of easily pleased Rocky lovers.

An amazing introduction bellowed out from a booth above the men’s room. Then the big red lips appeared on a screen center stage and boom, and all at once, we were there. There are a lot of details of this particular show that are not rated for our wonderful website. But I will try my best to give some props to those impressive to me as a lifelong Rocky Horror fan.

When the popcorn girl came out singing “Science Fiction-Double Feature”, I was impressed. Her voice was powerful and the costume was adorable. She made her way through the audience and took the stage with confidence. As she finished her song, I gazed around the room and noticed every eye was on her. The applause exploded.

Throughout the show, there was intense audience reaction. the costumes were amazing. The voices were strong and the music was excellent. This is a very sexual flick and this company knew how to exude just the right amount of sexy. Rocky (Troy Stark) looked fabulous in his golden shorts. Joey Boos was the perfect Brad Majors. Janet (Leslie Munson) stole our hearts. Magenta (Sara Tubbs) was both naughty and maniacal. Riffraff (Nicolas Munson) was delightfully creepy. Columbia (Becka Meumann-Johnson) was dirty and demented. The Transylvanians looked perfect and had the best timing! Frankenfurter (Dion Stover) …what can I say? I loved him! (Thank you for the photo opp with my daughter after the show!) Even Dr. Scott (Don Abbott) and the narrator (Doug Kutzli) were amazing. MAGNIFICENT!

What a great job! I am so delighted to inform you that this show will continue at the Circa 21 Speakeasy. Get your tickets for October 15, 28 or 29th at www.thecirca21speakeasy.com or by calling 786-7733, Ext. 2.
