The Genesius Guild is closing their 2023 season with the comedy The Wasps. Performances will be held July 22, 23, 29, and 30 at 7:00 PM and will be held at the Don Wooten Stage in Lincoln Park. Admission is free.

The production of The Wasps continues the Guild’s tradition of ending their seasons with a lighthearted rewritten Greek comedy. This year’s script was written by T Green and Calvin Vo, the duo behind the Quad Cities’ Haus of Ruckus.

As in many of Genesius’ Greek comedies, the basic plotline remains intact. An old man named Philocleon is addicted to politics and the court of law, and his son is trying to keep him inside to break him of his addiction. A group of like-minded individuals (the Wasps) arrive to try to rescue Philocleon, leading to an impromptu legal trial.

The Genesius Guild is a community theatre organization located in the Quad Cities specializing in free classical drama. Founded in 1956, the group performs Greek drama, Greek comedy, the works of Shakespeare, and other classical authors every weekend throughout the summer.
