You can go back in time without leaving the Quad-Cities with QC PastPort, a new, interactive, physical and digital tour of the cultural history of the American experience as told through the lives of those who passed through or settled here in the Quad-Cities.

The project kicked off May 28 in tandem with the water taxi Channel Cat’s launch. You will find QC PastPort signs throughout the Q-C at

each of the Channel Cat ports.

These ports are located near Riverbend Commons by the Ben Butterworth Parkway, Moline; John Deere Commons behind the Radisson Hotel in Moline; The Isle Casino Hotel in Bettendorf, and Lindsay Park in the Village of East Davenport.

Each QC PastPort sign offers information about the destination’s history, plus instructions on how you can join the tour through the Channel Cat App. You can download the Channel Cat App through Google Play or the Apple App Store, then click QC PastPort on the menu bar during your Channel Cat ride.

This new experience is a division of Media Link, Inc. (a Q-C marketing and public relations agency), and made possible through the support of community partners like Channel Cat, a

division of MetroLINK.

“We’re excited to offer this new program to the Quad-Cities,” said Jennifer Hirsch, manager of administration for the Channel Cat and MetroLINK. “We have fielded many requests over the years to bring a historical, audio component to the Channel Cat. QC PastPort allows us to do that, and riders can now simply navigate this experience via their own mobile devices and headphones while riding the Channel Cat.”

QC PastPort is working to bring the Quad-Cities’ rich history to life. The idea stemmed from a sense of frustration that despite recognizing the Q-C’s expansive history and the impact it had on the development of our country, we were not effectively sharing it with our own community or visitors.

“I have always felt it is harder to move forward if you don’t understand where you came from,” said Natalie Linville-Mass, president of QC PastPort and Media Link, Inc. “This experience is meant to help all of us understand how incredibly fortunate we are to be living right here. The Quad-Cities experience is the American experience, and I’m proud to have the chance to celebrate how all of us we got to be here.”
