Circa ’21 Dinner Playhouse, 1828 3rd Ave., Rock Island, is seeking video online submissions to cast an upcoming show, “Beehive: The ‘60s Musical,” to open in May.

Circa ’21 Seeks Six Spectacular Female Singers for “Beehive”

The ’60s Musical” will be performed from May 19 to July 10, 2021 at Circa.

“Beehive” (which was performed by Quad City Music Guild in spring 2007) is a fun, frothy flashback to the fabulous females who unmistakably left their mark on 1960s pop music, matching big voices with big hairdos — from the early decade bubble-gum classics to the explosive late ‘60s soul sound, according to Circa.

From The Supremes and Connie Francis to Aretha Franklin and Janis Joplin, “Beehive” is a wailing musical tribute to the ladies who left their mark on ‘60s music – with a soundtrack including “Respect,” “Natural Woman,” “My Boyfriend’s Back,” “One Fine Day,” “Downtown” and more.

The show will be directed by Augustana College professor and chair of the musical theatre program, Shelley Cooper, who will be making her Circa ‘21 directorial debut. Q-C favorite and Circa veteran Ron May will once again serve as musical director.

Cooper and May are seeking six ladies with spectacular pop voices, who are also good dancers. They prefer local actors because of Covid-19 precautions, but will cast as needed. Production dates, including two weeks of rehearsal, are April 29 to July 10, 2021. Public performances start May 21, with previews May 19-20.

Cooper and May are seeking actors (ideally ranging in age between 18 and 30) for the following roles:
