Nov. 7 Fallen Soldiers 5K Moves to Virtual Format

MACOMB, IL – The ninth annual Western Illinois University Fallen Soldiers 5K Run/Walk will be held Saturday, Nov. 7, but this year’s event will be completed in a virtual format because of the restrictions associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. Runners and walkers will complete the 5K on their own and the race will be timed using an app. Winners will be announced virtually. Heaton Named September Employee of the Month at Western Illinois University

MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University Associate Agricultural Research Technician Brent Heaton has been named the Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month for September 2020. Heaton was hired in June 1999 and had his classification changed to assistant agricultural research technician in April 2010. He audited to his current position in September 2014. MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois University School of Music will present the WIU Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Professor of Music and Director of Bands Mike Fansler, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26. Two Western Illinois University professors, who are members of the McDonough County League of Women Voters, are bringing voter registration information to the WIU community. Western Illinois University Fall 2020 Enrollment Sees Gains Over Past Decade

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – For the first time in 10 years, new student enrollment at Western Illinois University has increased. The number of new freshmen enrolling at Western this fall stands at 1,064, 18.9 percent over Fall 2019, while new transfer students total 721 (9.2 percent over Fall 2019) and new graduate students stand at 569 (10.3 percent over Fall 2019), for a total new student increase of 13.7 percent. In addition, the grade point average (GPA) of the incoming freshman class has increased to 3.49 (compared to 3.40 in Fall 2019). MACOMB, IL – Two Western Illinois University students from the Geographic Information System (GIS) Center will be honored in October with the Illinois GIS Association (ILGISA) Outstanding Student Award. MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – – Emilee Rains, a 2020 Western Illinois University teacher education alumna and second grade teacher at George O. Barr Elementary in Silvis, IL, is the first student to graduate after participating in the Great River Teacher Corps (GRTC) program.
