Tracy Family Foundation Continues Support of GRTC

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – With a series of gifts to Western Illinois University’s Great River Teacher Corps (GRTC), the Tracy Family Foundation of Mt. Sterling, IL, is continuing its support of the program which adds quality teachers to the region. WIU’s GRTC program began in 2018, and celebrated its first graduate in May 2020. MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – Raymond Lawson, dean of online learning at Oakton Community College in Des Plaines and Skokie (IL), has been named the director of distance education and support at Western Illinois University, effective June 1, while Jacob Bartels has been named the distance education support specialist, effective May 17. Western Illinois University students, faculty and staff on the Macomb campus who received their first Moderna vaccine on April 1 will receive their second Moderna dose at a clinic in the WIU Campus Recreation Center (enter through the MAC Gym, south entrance) on the WIU-Macomb Thursday, April 29. Western Illinois University Director of Transitional Programs Michelle Janisz has been named the Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month for April. Janisz began working at WIU in July 2001 as the assistant director of student activities. She left WIU in June 2005, but returned in August 2011 as director of student activities and coordinator of development. She transitioned to her current position in February 2019. Monika Mazela, of Winnebago, IL, a senior Honors student in the Western Illinois University Department of Psychology, is conducting a study titled “Eyewitness Memory Performance” to gain knowledge about factors that influence memory. The goal of Mazela’s study is to examine how different questioning formats affect eyewitness memory. Western Illinois University Study Abroad Opportunity Announced for the Netherlands

Two Western Illinois University professors have created a unique study abroad opportunity for students to follow the history of the legality of cannabis in the Netherlands. Students taking part in the Cannabis and Culture in Amsterdam program will travel with Anthropology Professor Heather McIlvaine-Newsad and Liberal Arts and Sciences Professor Sarah Haynes from May 20-30, 2022.
