All Western Illinois University students, faculty and staff are invited to participate in Military Appreciation Week, Monday, Nov. 6-Saturday, Nov. 18.

A variety of events have been planned to honor veterans and service members leading up to Veterans Day, Friday, Nov. 10.

This year’s schedule includes:

• Monday, Nov. 6, 10:45-1 p.m. – Kinder Monday at Stipes Lobby. Join the Veteran Resource Center Staff and Military Liaisons for hot chocolate, yellow ribbons and signing cards for deployed students.

• Monday, Nov. 6, 3-4 p.m. – Care package preparation at the WIU Alumni House. The WIU community will help assemble packages that will be mailed to selected active-duty students and alumni. To donate, contact Jeremey Robinett at JL-Robinett@wiu.edu. Monetary donations to offset the mailing costs can be made at fundraise.givesmart.com/vf/WIUPACK.

• Tuesday, Nov. 7, 4 p.m. – All-Star Tug of War, Campus Recreation. The event is open to all students, faculty and staff. Pre-registration is required for the tournament-style bracket. Register at bit.ly/46RVnhB.

• Wednesday, Nov. 8, 3:30-4:30 p.m. – In Their Own Words, Lincoln Room Union. Learn how WIU alumni integrated their education and military service into successful careers! Panelists include WIU Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) alumnus, Christine Standard (‘92 and ‘94), Neil Armstrong (‘04) and Chad Cox (‘99 and ‘16).

• Thursday, Nov. 9, 3-6 p.m. – Battle of the Branches Bench Press Competition, Spencer Student Recreation Center. This event is open to active military, veterans and ROTC only.

• Friday, Nov. 10, 11 a.m.-noon – Military Tribute Ceremony, Hanson Field Rotunda Ceremony. The ceremony will honor veterans and service members. If inclement weather, the ceremony will be held at the Sherman Auditorium, third floor.

• Saturday, Nov. 11, 7:30 – Concert for Veterans, COFAC Recital Hall. The performance will feature the Wind Ensemble and ROTC.

• Saturday, Nov. 18, 1 p.m. — First Responders and Military Appreciation Day at the Leatherneck football game. All veterans and military personnel with a valid military ID will receive free admission. Additional tickets can be requested from the Veterans Resource Center prior to the event.
