WQPT is holding a special screening of Ken Burns Presents: THE GENE: AN INTIMATE HISTORY followed by a 45-minute talk with “Charles Darwin” (actor Brian “Fox” Ellis – storyteller and science teacher).  Immediately following, “Darwin” will answer questions from the audience. Black Box’s ’39 Steps’ Opens Tonight In Moline

The Black Box Theatre once again presents a 1940’s style radio play with “The 39 Steps: A Live Radio Play” by Joe Landry. The show is scheduled for August 20 to 30. Tickets on Thursdays are $13 and $16 all other performances. According to Playscripts the piece is “Inspired by Hitchcock’s classic tale and performed as a live period radio play, this romantic thriller is a fast-paced ride through the signature world of the Master of Suspense. Along with the usual characters like Thomas the Train Engine, Elmo and Blue, you might see some familiar faces on PBS Kids. Local PBS station WQPT has debuted a new commercial playing between shows (technically called an interstitial) featuring a number of Quad-Cities kids doing a variety of activities during the past few weeks of coronavirus quarantine. “The idea for the spot came watching my neighbors’ sons riding their bikes on our frontage road,” said Lora Adams of WQPT. “They’re the only kids around and I saw them making their own fun as they played on their own.” With the commercial,... Read More

Quad-Cities Actors Launch New World of Live Theater in Time of Covid

Matt Walsh and Kayla Jo Pulliam are pioneers in this brave new world of indoor Q-C theater, presenting the first full-length play locally since coronavirus shut life down in March. Black Box Theatre Finally Debuting ‘Turn Of The Screw’ July 16-19

The Black Box Theatre was in rehearsal for the Jeffrey Hatcher adaptation of The Turn of The Screw when Covid-19 shut everything down. As Illinois enters Phase 4 of re-opening the actors are once again rehearsing and looking forward to performing. WQPT is happy to announce that their second channel 24.2 will begin airing DW (Duetsche Welle) beginning April 1. Duetsche Welle is a 24-hour English language TV channel, based in Germany and available almost everywhere in the world, with a mission to bring cultures together across the globe. Much like MHz Worldview, programming is from international sources. DW replaces MHz Worldview, which had been on 24.2 for the past 10 years.
