Comedy Sportz Takes A Final Bow Next Weekend

The longest-running show in the Quad Cities takes a final bow in November as the entity known as ComedySportz will be formally converting into G.I.T. Improv following a 30-year run of family-friendly, competitive improv matches. “It’ll definitely be a shift for comedy in the Quad Cities, and we’re very excited about what the future holds,” said Jeff Adamson, co-founder and co-owner of both CSz Quad Cities, Ltd. and G.I.T. Comedy Sportz is about to pull off their last “yes, and…” After 30 years, the improvisational troupe will no longer play under the Comedy Sportz banner, instead changing their name to the G.I.T. Improv Band starting in December. Comedy Sportz Quad-Cities, one of 29 groups nationwide, debuted March 20, 1990 in the Speakeasy next to Circa ’21. The franchise, based off the popular improvisational game slate created six years earlier and franchised to various locations nationwide in the years after, was brought to town by Jeff and Patrick Adamson and Brett and Denny Hitchcock,... Read More

The Establishment Theater has a new tenant — and it’s one that’s familiar to the downtown Rock Island District. Here Are The REAL Entrepreneurs You Should Be Keeping Up With

Anyone read that article sweeping the web about Terry Tilka? He’s celebrating his 30th year of busting his ass as the owner of the coolest bar in the Quad-Cities, one that’s outlived almost every other and fought its way through countless trends, several recessions and umpteen financial curves in the Quad-Cities. Terry started off young, when he was in college, owning bars around the area, and busted his ass most frequently as the owner of O’Meara’s (named after his Mom’s maiden name), before putting his money and his life on the table to buy a little spot called RIBCO when there was... Read More

Chili Three Ways Is Cool And Hot Comedy

Since I began reviewing the shows at the Establishment Theater, 220 19th St., Rock Island, I have laughed harder than I have laughed all year long. I love this place and I hope you all give it a looksee one of these weekends. You can catch PG rated Comedy Sportz starting at 7 p.m. and stick around for the R rated aftershow of the evening. The improvisational comedy never fails to impress the crowd as audience involvement is key to these shows. The actors are all very gifted with communication and have unstoppable wits about them. Establishment Stands Up Quite Well

Stand up comedy can be found every last Saturday of every month right here in our District of Rock Island at the Establishment theatre, home of your local Comedy Sportz show. September 2015 gave us the comedy stylings of the very Irish Colin Ryan, hilarious local comedian Dan Deibert, and of course the introductory and in between jokes from our Establishment’s own beloved Jeff Adamson. Now first of all, the theatre was PACKED! Jeff opened up with a few funny tidbits and introduced Ryan, who was fully ready to alleviate any concerns about his lucky charms. For the record, he has no lucky charms,... Read More

It’s Your Fault If You Miss The Hilarious It’s Your Fault At The Establishment

The Establishment Theatre rests in the heart of the District of Rock Island just around the corner from Circa 21. Within it are your local improvisational comedy masters and the softest big pretzel you are going to find in the Q-C.  When you make it down for Comedy Sportz, be sure to stick around for the late shows. There are MANY of these. It just depends on which night you choose to come by that will decide your fate. These are geared toward adults, so the kids are more than welcome for Comedy Sportz shows, but need to be safely out of the building before the actors are virtually set free on... Read More
