The Figge Art Museum will welcome Sue Taylor, Grant Wood scholar and author of Grant Wood’s Secrets, on Sunday, March 8. Taylor will kick off her Iowa tour at the Figge with a talk about artist Grant Wood that will reveal secrets about Wood’s personal life and the impact it had on his art. From Wood’s close relationship with his mother to how he posed as masculine to hide his homosexuality from his rural community, nothing will be off limits. Kick off Mardi Gras right here in the Quad Cities, with the Eighth annual Cajun Cook-Off to benefit the Figge Art Museum! The spicy gig will be held at the Rhythm City Casino Event Center on Fat Tuesday, February 25, from 5-8 p.m. Eleven local chefs will be stationed around the Event Center at the Rhythm City Casino. Beginning this week, the Figge Art Museum’s second-floor Mary Waterman Gildehaus Community Gallery will feature the artwork of local elementary art students (K-5) for the annual Young Artists at the Figge exhibition. The Rock Island Art Guild, a volunteer-run organization founded in 1955, promotes and fosters the appreciation of the visual arts in the Quad Cities. Beginning Saturday, the Guild’s 41st juried exhibition will be installed in the Figge Art Museum’s fourth-floor gallery. Ballet Dances Into Figge Thursday

The talented dancers of Ballet Quad Cities will glide into the Figge Museum in downtown Davenport at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. The mini performance is featuring a lively potpourri of favorite Ballet Quad Cities dancers along with artist Chuck Morris, his incredible “Shake the Muse” invention, Rob Miller on Clarinet, and more! There will be an opportunity to speak with the artists after the performance.
