Skubie Mageza, one of the brightest stars in the local broadcast journalism galaxy, is getting a chance to glow up at a much higher level — on the gold standard for national sports coverage, ESPN. According to a story on the website of Mageza’s local employer, KWQC-TV6, the on-air personality is joining ESPN as a digital sports host, doing sideline reporting for college football and other events nationwide. An opportunity for Western Illinois University Broadcasting and Journalism alumni to gather during COVID-19 has transformed into a podcast highlighting their careers after college, hosted by College of Fine Arts and Communication Associate Dean William “Buzz” Hoon. Carson King is getting his own bobblehead — and all sales are helping out charity. Today, the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum unveiled the rendering for a limited edition bobblehead honoring Carson King, the “Iowa Legend” whose viral sign resulted in over $3 million dollars of donations to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital.
