Circa ’21 Includes “Beauty and the Beast,” “White Christmas” and “Disaster!” in 45th Season

The past 17 months have kind of been a disaster around the world. In the land of Quad-Cities musical theater, “Disaster!” will continue into 2022, as both Quad City Music Guild and Circa ’21 Dinner Playhouse plan to stage a ‘70s-themed jukebox musical comedy of that name within three months of each other. In early July, the Moline community theater announced that “Disaster!” would kick off its 2022 season in April, and on Monday, the professional Rock Island dinner theater announced that the silly show would run there July 20-Sept. 10, 2022. Earthquakes, tidal waves, infernos and... Read More

Here's The Biggest News You Probably Haven't Heard This Week, Quad-Cities

The past couple weeks have been unbelievably active in the Quad-Cities, and statewide. Illinois Governor JB Pritzker announced new covid-19 mitigations, including a return to masks in schools and mandatory vaccinations for some state employees. This comes on the heels of covid numbers spiking across the state. Along those same lines, Codfish Hollow Barnstormers said they would no longer allow people to attend their concerts without proof of vaccination, and would not allow anyone under the age of 12 to attend concerts since they’re not eligible to receive vaccinations. And then on top of... Read More

Illinois Quad-Cities Performance Venues Allowed to Fully Reopen Today

The day that Illinois Quad-Cities theaters and concert venues have long waited for arrives today, on Friday, June 11 – when they can remove Covid-related restrictions on audience capacity. Today, the state of Illinois is moving into Phase 5 of the pandemic, which lifts all limits on indoor and outdoor festivals, concerts and other live performances, which will affect many Q-C venues. “We are thrilled to be able to go back to full capacity in both venues. Nothing but a positive for us,” said Brett Hitchcock, director of audience development for Circa ’21 and The Speakeasy, Rock Island. REVIEW: “Beehive” A Colorful, Exhilarating Triumph at Rock Island’s Circa ‘21

While I had been inside Circa ’21 Dinner Playhouse a few times over the past year (for interviews and an audition), I had not been back before Wednesday to see an actual stage show since January 2020. Like a certain Dorothy once said, “There’s no place like home.” And even with what seems like the final phase of Covid restrictions (patrons seated every other table, no buffet, servers wearing masks), Circa still dependably seems like a comforting, familiar home away from home for me. In the capable hands of Bootlegger Kathryn Calhoun, I was simply overjoyed to be back for a tasty dinner... Read More
