The McDonough County Health Department, in cooperation with Western Illinois University, will host two COVID-19 vaccination clinics (including boosters) for WIU faculty, staff and students, as well as members of the general public, Jan. 25 and Feb. 22. Johnson & Johnson, Moderna and Pfizer vaccines will be available at no cost, and an appointment is not needed. For more than 50 years, Amtrak has provided critical transportation services to the west central Illinois region, including providing a way back home for many Western Illinois University students, as well as access to Chicago and points in-between for WIU students, faculty and staff. In 2006, a second round-trip service was added on the Quincy to Chicago line, which provides even greater options for residents of west central Illinois. On Friday, January 21, 2022, the Iowa Chapter of Certified Public Accountants is personally donating a new book to several first-grade classrooms in the Davenport Community School District. Local CPAs will be reading, “When I Grow Up I Want to Be An Accountant,” by Dr. Adrian L. Mayse, CPA, to these first graders. The goal of this book donation is to educate young students about the accounting profession and encourage minority students, specifically, to consider learning more about this field.
