Quad City Engineering & Science Council is offering scholarships for high school seniors pursuing a STEM Career. Students must be a resident of Mercer, Rock Island, Henry, Whiteside, Carroll, Knox, or Lee county in Illinois, or Clinton, Scott, Muscatine, or Louisa County in Iowa. They must plan to study for a STEM related degree (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) at either an accredited four-year college or university, an associate degree at a community or junior college, or a skilled trades certification. Governor Kim Reynolds announced during her Condition of the State address a new $15 million round of funding targeted at growing Registered Apprenticeship (RA) programs across high-demand fields in health care. The expanded Health Careers Registered Apprenticeship Program will support more programs that help Iowa meet the demand of its health care workforce. Governor Kim Reynolds today announced a second round of grant awards targeted at supporting child care slots through meaningful business incentives. A total of $443,234 will be awarded through Iowa Workforce Development (IWD) and the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to support five projects involving 11 participating businesses that will help create 77 new child care slots. At long last, the state of emergency due to covid-19 is coming to an end in Illinois. Gov. J.B. Pritzker announced in a statement Tuesday that the statewide public health emergency declaration will end on May 11, in line with Joe Biden’s announcement that the federal government state of emergency will end that same day.
