Rock Island’s Genesius Guild Mixing It Up With Free Musical Performance

The Genesius Guild in Rock Island is mixing it up this holiday weekend, with a free musical performance.
Sunday, July 6, opera returns to the park, with a special guest performance by Opera Quad Cities in the Lincoln Park bandshell. The performance begins at 7 p.m. and, as always, admission is free.
Opera QC was formed in September 2001, and has offered diverse and vibrant opera programming ever since, including its most recent full production of Strauss’ “Die Fledermaus” on June 20 and 22 at Davenport’s Galvin Fine Arts Center.
Sunday night will mark the return of opera to Lincoln Park, where Opera QC, St. Ambrose University, Augustana College, and the Genesius Guild partnered to offer two weekends of outdoor opera for a number of years. The group continues to offer a fully staged opera every year, in addition to a number of smaller performances.
“It will be very relaxed and fun, not highfalutin’ and definitely not serious and elitist,” Opera QC director Michelle Crouch said recently of the Genesius Guild show. “Dressed to stay cool and celebrate the summer. All are welcome. Free admission, donations to both organizations gratefully accepted. Bring a picnic blanket, lawn chairs, snacks.”
The singers to perform (with piano accompaniment) include Chelsea Crumbleholme, Emmylynn Haugen, Kathleen Figaro, Olha Huska, Catie Johnson, John Whitson, Brent Behrens, and Ethan Elsbernd.
