Rock Island’s Circa ’21 Announces 49th Season Shows

Shortly before opening its newest show, the heartwarming musical “Come From Away,” Circa ’21 Dinner Playhouse has announced its lineup for next season, its 49th, at 1828 3rd Ave., Rock Island.

It will kick off with the holiday favorite, “White Christmas,” last done in 2022, to run Nov. 5 to Dec. 28, 2025. In the story, two World War II vets, Bob Wallace and Phil Davis, have become partners in a song-and-dance act after the war. Looking for love, they follow a duo of beautiful singing and dancing sisters to a gig at a lodge in Vermont, only to discover that the nearly-bankrupt lodge where they were hired to perform is owned by their former commanding general. This Irving Berlin holiday movie is brought to life onstage, filled with dancing, laughter, and some of the greatest songs ever written, according to a Circa release.

The schedule for 2026 will feature:

LUCKY STIFF (PG)
January 21 – March 7, 2026
Laugh out loud with this comedic murder mystery! Harry Witherspoon will receive $6 million from his uncle, but only if he takes him on a vacation to Monte Carlo. The catch? His uncle is dead and embalmed! Harry must navigate mistaken identities, disguises, and a cast of eccentric characters to prove his uncle is alive and receive the inheritance. A madcap, hilarious romp of a musical, penned by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens (“Ragtime,” “Seussical,” “Anastasia”).

HONKY TONK ANGELS (PG)
March 11 – April 25, 2026
When three gutsy gals from different backgrounds take charge of their lives, they decide to follow their honky tonk dreams all the way to the city of Nashville. Combining 30 classic country tunes (including “Stand By Your Man,” “9 to 5,” “Harper Valley PTA” and more!) Honky Tonk Angels is a hilarious, foot-stomping good time.

FIDDLER ON THE ROOF (PG)
April 29 – June 27, 2026
In the little village of Anatevka, Tevye — with the help of a colorful and tight-knit Jewish community — tries to protect his daughters and instill them with traditional values in the face of changing social mores and the growing anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia. One of the greatest works of American musical theatre with unforgettable songs such as “If I Were A Rich Man,” “Matchmaker,” “Sunrise, Sunset,” and “Tradition!”

THE WIZARD OF OZ (G)
July 8 – Sept. 5, 2026
In this classic movie-come-to-life musical adventure, Dorothy and her friends the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion trot delightfully and tunefully down the yellow brick road in search of the mysterious and all-powerful Wizard in Emerald City, while facing challenges from the Wicked Witch of the West.

ROCK OF AGES (PG13)
September 16 – November 7, 2026
“Rock of Ages” takes you back to the time of ’80s rock bands with big egos playing big guitar solos and sporting even bigger hair! Set on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood, follow the love story between a small-town girl and a city boy, both aspiring rock stars. The story unfolds against the backdrop of a legendary bar threatened with demolition, and the musical features a score of classic ’80s rock anthems from Night Ranger, Styx, Journey, Bon Jovi, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister and more.

The 2017 musical “Come From Away” will run at Circa Sept. 10 to Nov. 1, 2025. With book, music and lyrics by Irene Sankoff and David Hein, it’s based on the events in the Newfoundland town of Gander during the week following the September 11 attacks, when 38 planes, carrying approximately 7,000 passengers, were ordered to land unexpectedly at Gander International Airport. The characters in the musical are based on actual Gander residents and stranded travelers they housed and fed.
