Whether they’re using the money to pay bills, stock up on groceries, or finally purchase that liger they’ve been looking at to name him Joe Exotic, people are wondering about the status of their coronavirus stimulus monies.

Quad-Citians Waiting Anxiously For Stimulus Payments Amid Delays, SnafusThe payments, up to $1,200 per individual, $2,400 for married couples, with $500 per child added in for those who have filed taxes as heads of household, started to roll out this week to people making under a certain income threshold (up to $99,000 for individuals; up to $198,000 for couples). And for millions who are out of work due to social distancing, but whose bills still keep cropping up, it’s been a welcome arrival. Still, many are anxiously awaiting that help from the pool of taxpayer money being sent out to stimulate the economy and make up the shortfall for millions hit hard by the crisis.

Yesterday, a free web app, “Get My Payment” that allows taxpayers to find the status of their payment was launched by the Treasury Department and IRS. The site also enables taxpayers to add their direct deposit information if they did not include that in their tax returns for 2018 or 2019, thus avoiding the delay of waiting for a paper check.

Early reports showed several snags in regard to the site, and frustrations have been high. In addition, there have been reports that many people who used popular tax filing services like Turbotax, Jackson Hewitt and more have had a difficult time getting their payments.

If you have a story in regard to receiving or having difficulty receiving your payment, and/or if you have a story about your own struggles during this time, please feel free to share it with us at Sean@QuadCities.com.
