UnityPoint Health – Trinity and Encompass Health are partnering to build a new Quad Cities Rehabilitation Institute, which will be at the intersection of 52nd Avenue and 7th Street in Moline.

The specialty hospital expects to begin serving patients in the summer of 2022.

A groundbreaking was held June 7 for a new Quad Cities Rehabilitation Institute at Moline’s 7th Street and 52nd Avenue.

On Monday, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for the future home of the facility. Speakers included Robert J. Erickson, UnityPoint Health – Trinity President & CEO; Albert Park, UnityPoint Health – Trinity Medical Director for Inpatient Rehabilitation Services; U.S. Rep. Cheri Bustos; Troy DeDecker, President of Encompass Health’s Central Region; and Mark Tarr, President & CEO, Encompass Health Corp.

The groundbreaking participants included the speakers, Illinois Sen. Neil Anderson, Illinois Rep. Mike Halpin, Moline Ald.-at-large James Patrick Schmidt, Rock Island County Board Chair Richard H. “Quijas” Brunk and Rock Island Mayor Mike Thoms.

“People want to get back into their communities and back to their loved ones and this facility will allow us to help our patients get back to their lives quickly and safely following a debilitating accident or illness,” Erickson, UnityPoint Health – Trinity President & CEO, said at the event.

Once the new hospital is operational, UnityPoint Health – Trinity’s existing 22–bed inpatient rehabilitation unit at Trinity Rock Island will consolidate into the new joint venture hospital.

Through customized care plans, the hospital will provide intensive rehabilitation services that help patients recovering from strokes, brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, amputations and complex orthopedic conditions regain function and independence.

The future inpatient rehabilitation hospital is designed with its patients’ needs in mind and offer amenities such as 40 private patient rooms, a spacious therapy gym featuring advanced rehabilitation technologies, an activities of daily living suite, therapy courtyard, dining room, in-
