Fairytale STEM on Facebook Live

Just because school is out, that doesn’t mean the fun and learning has to end!

Throughout the month of July, the Davenport Public Library will be hosting Fairytale STEM on Facebook Live. The fun kicks off this Thursday Jul 2 from 2 – 2:30 p.m. and will continue every Thursday afternoon throughout the month of July.

Every week, the DPL will read a different fairytale and then help your child(ren) complete a related STEM project on Facebook live. Supplies will be provided and can be picked up at the Eastern Avenue Branch Library (6000 Eastern Ave. Davenport).

This program is best suited for children in K-3rd grade. Registration is required, and you can do so at https://davenportlibrary.libcal.com/event/6778761.

Davenport’s Star Spangled Extravaganza

Davenport’s Star Spangled Extravaganza will be Friday July 3 with viewing areas in Centennial Park, LeClaire Park and Modern Woodmen Park for the 9:30 p.m. fireworks show. Riverfront construction will limit parking south of the railroad tracks, so visitors are encouraged to utilize downtown parking ramps for free.

Food trucks will be located in the parking lot just west of the Skybridge.

Parking will be permitted only in parking lots north and west of Modern Woodmen Park and the lot directly west of the ballpark, as well as lots at The River’s Edge and Freight House. Parking in Centennial Park is prohibited since it has been designated as a viewing area. Access to the Marquette Street boat ramp via Gaines Street will be permitted.

Due to ongoing construction, parking at The River’s Edge and the lot to the west of Modern Woodmen Park is only accessible via Gaines Street. The Freight House lot and the lot on the north side of Modern Woodmen Park are accessible only via Western Avenue.

“I look forward to a great night of fireworks and a celebration of America, but I also strongly encourage everyone who joins us along the riverfront to properly social distance for everyone’s health and safety,” Mayor Mike Matson said.

As Davenport invests in its downtown, several active construction zones are located along the riverfront. These areas will be secured, and the public is reminded not to go into construction zones.

Following Davenport’s Star Spangled Extravaganza, traffic exiting from Gaines Street will only be permitted to go west on River Drive to Division Street before being allowed north. Traffic exiting the Modern Woodmen Park lot at Western Avenue will only be permitted to go east, then either up Brady Street or continue east on River Drive.
