East Moline’s Rubi Tapia-Macias wins WB6 Cross Country championship and MVP honors

Believe it or not, 2003 was the last time when a girl from United Township High School won the Western Big 6 individual title in Cross Country. This year Rubi Tapia-Macias, a UT freshman, broke that spell and was also named MVP at the conference meet. Born and raised in the Quad Cities, Tapia-Macias started playing soccer and running when she was in elementary school. “I started running when I was 9 with the Girls on the run GOTR,” she said. Sharon Glassman is fondly remembered as a quiet, thoughtful person who worked at the International Harvester Plant in East Moline. She possessed a cheerful, kind-hearted sensibility that shone through whenever she spoke. Her husband, Kenneth Glassman, was a welder at Johnson Sheet Metal whose iron-clad work ethic instilled within him a sense of duty and purpose. UTHS and Moline Basketball Teams Battle in the Panther Den

School spirit filled United Township High School last night. The excitement and pride must have been felt for miles in neighborhoods surrounding the recently updated building. Western Big 6 rivals, United Township High School and Moline High School, played their last conference game for the 2019-2020 season in a packed Panther Den last night.
