New Quad-Cities Theater Group Presenting Susan Glaspell Play

The New Athens Players — a new theater group in the QCA — will present: SPOTLIGHT ON SUSAN GLASPELL — a 1 ½ hour program of three short stage pieces connected to the famous and yet still frequently neglected Pulitzer-Prize-winning Davenport writer, Susan Glaspell. Glaspell, along with her husband, George Cram Cook, were active in the arts and literary scene in the Quad Cities in the early 20th century; together they moved to the East Coast and founded the Provincetown Players, a ground-breaking theater company in which Eugene O’Neill got his start. The QC Theatre Workshop in Davenport may not be presenting live plays before audiences, but it has named winners in its fourth-annual Susan Glaspell Playwriting Festival. And they’re recording videos of staged readings of each. Starting this weekend, the Workshop will release recordings of each of the three winners, one per week. The first is a national runner-up, “She’s Fabulous” by Jack Neary, featuring the acting of Susan Perrin-Sallak and Patti Flaherty, directed by Luke Peterson. It’s described as a play “about two women bickering about a woman who got a part of them, and... Read More

QCTW’s ‘The Inheritors’ Is An Amazing Experience

The Quad City Theatre Workshop is home to some of the most amazing local actors I have come across and a wonderful theater area and experience and that amazing experience is embodied in their latest show, “The Inheritors.” From the cozy seating area that places you practically within the set, to the people involved, one finds themselves completely submerged in their world. There is real feeling in every player. I felt every character in this play because their connection with their parts were so intense. I was humbled by this amazing performance. I was captivated and stunned by the impact of... Read More

QCTW Presenting Drama By Pulitzer Prize Winning QC Writer

For the first production in its fifth season of stage entertainment, the QC Theatre Workshop will turn back the clock for its dramatic presentation Inheritors, running August 19 through September 4. Written by Davenport native Susan Glaspell, whose Alison’s House won the 1931 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Inheritors’ original New York Times review called it a work that “stands firm and skillfully distinguishes the false from the true social values,” and Glaspell’s 1921 play proves just as relevant in 2016 as it must have been nearly a century ago. Inheritors will be presented... Read More
