The Rock Island Rocks battled today at the Bob Lueders invite in Clinton, IA against top ranked wrestlers from IL, IA, and WI. Rock Island High School wrestlers are still competing at the Illinois state level, and we’ve got updates on the results! Congratulations again to Tristan Willoughby, Amare Overton (4th place at 152), Andrew Marquez (4th place at 220), and Steven Marquez (1st Place at 195)! Daniel McGhee, Sammy Niyonkuru, Kyle Gant, and Manny Limon all won 1 and lost 2, Tyler Barbee went 2-2. They have been eliminated. Rock Island has earned SIX State Wrestling Tournament Qualifiers! In the sectionals this weekend in Geneseo, the team finished third place, and Aoci Bernard took 1st, Daniel McGhee, Tyler Barbee, and Manny Limon took 2nd, Kyle Gant took 3rd, and Sammy Niyonkuru took 4th.
