The Rock Island-Milan Education Foundation (RIMEF) will award a record $137,200 to the Class of 2022 at its Austin Academic Achievement Awards and RIMEF Scholarships Night on May 11, 6:30p.m. in the RIHS Auditorium. 58 accomplished Rock Island High School (RIHS) seniors will receive $35,000 in Austin Academic Achievement Award (AAAA) scholarships and $102,200 RIMEF Named scholarships at the annual ceremony. The Rock Island-Milan Education Foundation (RIMEF) has a new scholarship for any Rock Island High School senior having a parent who has or has had a significant illness. The new “Heart of a Rock” scholarship was established by Megan Wilson and Triona Roberts, 2010 RIHS graduates, in honor and memory of their mothers (Terri Wilson and Yolanda Roberts) who both fought a battle with breast cancer. Like most everything else in this time of social distancing, the annual awarding of scholarships and other recognition for Rock Island High School students was done online last month. The Rock Island-Milan Education Foundation (RIMEF), led by executive director Monta Ponsetto, assembled a video presentation to detail and honor the accomplishments of 114 RIHS students, including awarding nearly $90,000 in scholarships.
