Davenport's Village Theatre To Host Burlesque Variety Show Tonight

Rein Razer participated as a guest performer at the last burlesque show at the Village Theatre – a March 14 gig from the new Crystal Crown Cabaret – and the Rock Islander is back organizing a special return, Friday, July 24 at 8 p.m. The theater is at 2113 E. 11th St., Village of East Davenport. Rein Razer’s Court of Royalty was originally intended to be an online-only show, to help out her community performers, as most shows and events have been canceled due to Covid. Now that things are beginning to open back up, Razer has teamed up with the Village Theatre to produce a showcase that can... Read More

Circa ’21 Proves the Show Must Go On – Outside

Even though it’s been closed nearly three months, Circa ’21 Dinner Playhouse got a pretty great 43rd birthday present Thursday, June 11. Within a day of announcing it, the theater sold out all tables (totaling about 140 people) for its unique “Music on the Marquee” cabaret on Sunday, June 21. “The public is hungry to see activity in the arts,” Ron May, music director of Circa’s not-yet-produced “Saturday Night Fever,” said Thursday – which also happens to be the 43rd anniversary of his marriage to wife Cindy. Ironically, they wed (at Davenport’s Trinity Cathedral) the same... Read More

Bottoms Up Celebrates Fifth Birthday This Weekend

It’s bottoms up for Bottoms Up this weekend as the local burlesque troupe throws down some drinks in cheers of five years on stage bringing entertainment to the Quad-Cities, and continues the legacy with shows Friday and Saturday. Five years ago a group of young performers all of whom shared a love of burlesque decided to join together and form their own troupe.  That troupe became known as Bottom’s Up Quad City Burlesque.  Five years later performers have come and gone but Bottom’s Up still continues to entertain Quad City audiences. “I remember the first phone call I received... Read More

QC Lip Sync Battle Is Light, Goofy Fun

September 29th, 2016
Michelle Royal vamps it up during the Quad Cities Lip Sync Battle.

There’s something fun, relaxed, goofy and familiar about the Quad Cities Lip Sync battles that’s utterly charming, which is why, if you haven’t done so already, you really should check one of them out. This weekend, the regular gigs at the Rock Island Speakeasy return, and if you’re looking for something fun and light to do, make the trip. I checked out the last Lip Sync event and not only wasn’t disappointed, but was, honestly, surprised at how much I enjoyed it. The show, for sake of familiarity and comparison, posits itself as similar gigs to those on Spike TV and “The Tonight Show... Read More

QC Lip Sync Battle Is Light, Goofy Fun

There’s something fun, relaxed, goofy and familiar about the Quad Cities Lip Sync battles that’s utterly charming, which is why, if you haven’t done so already, you really should check one of them out. This weekend, the regular gigs at the Rock Island Speakeasy turn their spotlight on songs from Disney, so if you’re a fan of the house of the mouse and its signature showtunes, you can get on board Saturday night. But if not, make sure you make time at some point in the future to include these unique events on your planner. I checked out the last Lip Sync event the first week in February... Read More
